What are the technical requirements for fire pump self-testing?
As a new technology, the self-inspection of fire pump water supply systems requires certain technical safety standards in its inspection methods to ensure reliability and perfection. Inspect and adjust the packing in the fire pump control cabinet, replacing it as required. Adjust the mechanical seal (refer to the manufacturer's instructions provided with the pump or consult the manufacturer). Horizontal fire pumps: During maintenance, diagnosing pump failures is critical. Below are common faults and corrective actions for targeted troubleshooting. Vertical fire pumps: During maintenance, diagnosing pump failures is critical. Below are common faults and corrective actions for targeted troubleshooting.
1. Fire pump self-testing operations should employ PLC control. The self-test cycle is generally set at 10 to 15 days, with each test lasting 5 to 10 minutes. The fire water treatment system should undergo comprehensive annual testing, including a design flow rate test (under normal operating conditions). This ensures the self-test accurately reflects the pump's actual operational status.
2. The self-test operation mode must include automatic control switching during major fires, ensuring fire pumps remain operational without automatic shutdown after activation. During fire suppression operations, self-test signals shall not interfere with firefighting procedures.
If an operational command is issued during self-testing, the system must immediately halt the current independent action, close the solenoid valve bypass pipe, and confirm forced termination of the self-test. Automatically transition to normal fire pump (frequency) conditions to enable the fire pump to accelerate the system to fire pump water supply, ensuring the system meets flow and head requirements.
3. In fire water supply control systems with fire pump self-testing, from a reliability perspective, it is necessary to install pressure relief valves. Both constant-speed self-test mode and low-speed self-test management mode may lead to system overpressure issues. If the solenoid valve fails to open or the soft starter and VFD malfunction, the pump may stall. A shared pressure relief valve assembly can be installed across the network system.
4. Since fire pumps require enhanced maintenance and frequent operation during normal periods, vibration isolation measures for both pumps and piping must be considered for fire pump units. Fire pumps should also be protected against freezing to ensure system reliability and prevent equipment failure or damage.
